What an AWESOME find from the other day. THIS below:

A Need to Grow

I have what it takes to make this whole eBay  business successful. I have the drive, I love the treasure hunting, I have always loved the vintage, the old, the whole ‘one man’s junk is another man’s treasure’.

As I travel from place to place in my marvelous Floridian Blue Hookmobile, I see a number of books, dvds, tapes, records, books and various other things of that nature. How does one go about finding which books or dvds is popular enough or vintage enough to buy and sell for great money? It just seems like you would have to spend hours just looking at the titles because there’s so many. Oh and board games is another one. I’d like to be able to pick out the vintage board games that’s worth a lot of money and sell them to future owners who have been looking for quite some time. (That’s where eBay serves as a purpose.)

When I lived in Nicholasville, a couple few years back, there was a store called Peddler’s Mall and it’d be an every day flea market – open all the time. I used to go in there and look at all of the tons of things that they had. I remember getting lost in this pile of letters and photos that were just laying on the tables… probably waiting to be bought for some kind of scrapbooking or something. I remember wanting to search for the families of those people and return the letters and photos back where they originally needed to be.

I just love the vintage. Love the thought of where some of the things have been or the story of how it got here. For most things, it’s interesting, especially non-every day items.

A Decent Surprise and Other Thoughts

The vintage ring I listed the other day? Sold for $48.99 ~ I had listed it for $14.99. Regardless if it’s worth three times the amount, it didn’t cost me anything and I know I got my good use out of it and it was time to hand it to someone else. Needless to say, I was shocked at the price, especially since I couldn’t find anything more about it online.

Something I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that I’ve been selling, here are key items (at least for me): coins, flatware (certain names), tokens, and Polly Pocket – like items. I’m working on trying to get collector plates & glasses, as well as purses a decent one two three sell with me.

It’s all about the price ~ fair pricing. As long as you list a fair price, the customer will mark  the item up by bidding on it and if they’re out bid, bidding again.

Today was a terrible Friday, I went to four different places and didn’t find anything decent to buy to sell. I barely found anything at the place I like to shop most. This is where I decided to buy up a bunch of purses and try to go that way too.

The most difficult thing…

I have to say is seeing a bunch of people watch my items and then it go off without being sold. It’s like, but I thought they liked it enough to watch it… so why didn’t they put in a bid for it?

Well, for one, people do have lives and they’re not ALWAYS sitting in front of the computer watching eBay. Maybe they have a smart phone – like an iPhone – that allows them to get alerts for when an item is about to end… or maybe, they turned off that notification and they’re quite bummed when they get back to the computer to figure out it ended without their bid.

Or, if they truly wanted the item, they would’ve went ahead (no matter how many days) and put in a bid for it to secure the item as theirs.

There’s always the possibility that if they wanted the item really and it went off, then they should contact the eBayer to ask if they sold and if they can do a deal. I don’t know if that is against the eBay rules, but I would do it.

If it wasn’t so darn expensive (stupid excessive eBay fees), I’d be doing ‘buy it now’ *and* auction…. and probably up to 30 days for the things that have a hard time selling.

I have come to find out that people pay MORE attention to auctions with a few days left, or up until the end. People normally don’t bid on anything a week or so out. Normally. Unless it’s something very rare or if they want it really bad.

So, I’m still left at what will make people buy my stuff? Especially the watchers who watch and don’t bid and then it’s all over and has to be relisted!

Studious Owls on Books Brass Bookends

April 27th, 2011 § 2 Comments

When I was out looking for treasures, I found these bookends. They are like brand new, just with a few nicks on the ears and little wear from over time. Amazing deal running on my eBay right now for them, as opposed to buying a new set from Barnes and Noble for almost $50. When I did research for the bookends, I just wonder if Barnes and Noble still has them? Anyway, either way, I have them and buy from me because they’re much cheaper!

1940s Rare, Vintage “1614″ Kool-Aid Treasure Hunt Ring

April 27th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

For my first entry, I wanted to show this item that I have up on eBay right now with ONE DAY LEFT.  It’s a vintage ring from the 1940s.

The history behind me having this ring? It somehow ended up in my possession from my grandparents when they died. I wore it a lot as a child, pretending that it was some special events ring or part of the imaginary play I was participating in. Now it’s just time to sell it and let someone else enjoy it…because it was just sitting in my closet in a bag.
